Savvy, by Ingrid Law
For most young people thirteen is a special birthday. For the Beaumont children thirteen has an extra special significance. For on their thirteenth birthday, every member of the Beaumont clan discovers a supernatural talent called a savvy. For Grandma Beaumont it was the ability to capture radio waves in a jar so that she could release music into the air whenever she felt like it. For Mib’s older brother it was the ability to conjure storms out of his emotions. Now it is Mib’s turn. She hopes her savvy will be something unique and powerful, but not so powerful that she can’t control it. Mixed in with her hopes are her fears for her papa, who has been badly injured in an auto accident and has slipped into a deep coma. Could Mib’s savvy be something that might reach him and bring him back to his family. A Newbery Honor book, Savvy is an imaginative adventure, filled with lively and engaging characters.
